Chilkoot High Adventure Base

Updated: May 31, 2019

High adventure is a lynchpin to keep older youth involved in all areas of Scouting. There are all kinds of distractions that happen as our youth get older. To better inform everyone visiting this website we will start to highlighting high adventure bases around the country. Most everyone knows about the BSA sponsored national high adventure bases so we’ll try and concentrate first on the Council based options and work our way from there.

The feature in this blog post is the Chilkoot High Adventure Base sponsored by the Great Alaska Council in Alaska. For most of the US outside the upper northwest this is an out of the way high adventure option but some would say the travel is well worth it. They offer 7-10 day trips in a variety of activities. See the list below.

  • Backpacking/Whitewater Rafting/Sea Kayaking – 7-10 Days

  • Mountaineering/Rock Climbing/Kayaking – 7-10 Days

  • Ice Climbing

  • Ability to build customized program

From the base website, “This unique scout camp gives scouts the opportunity for wilderness exploration, adventurous activities and outdoor leadership training under the tutelage of outdoor professionals.” The natural beauty is a strong reason to head up north.
